Life Is Crushed Out – Fred Hucke Car Repairer Instantly Killed.
He failed to put out Proper Signals and the Switching Crew Backed a Car over him.
Fred Hucke a car repairer employed here by the Northwestern railroad was instantly killed about eight o’clock Monday morning. He was repairing one of a string of cars on one of the tracks in the gravel pit west of town when a train of emptied backed in onto the track and crushed his life out instantly. His head was caught under the wheels and crushed to a jelly. No blame is attached to the train crew as the unfortunate man had neglected to display any signal and they had no reason to believe there was anyone beneath the cars. Dr. Bemis was deputized as coroner and ordered the remains removed to Summer’s undertaking parlors. A coroner’s jury was impaneled Monday evening and from the evidence adduced came to the conclusion that the deceased came to his death through neglect to put out the proper signals before going to work under the cars. He came here about a month ago from some point in SD and had proven himself a steady man in the yards. His people lived at Burlington, Iowa, and were at once notified of his death. His father and brother arrived Tuesday and removed the remains to Burlington for burial
Parents possibly Carl Hucke and Mary
