HUDSON, SOUTH DAKOTA ~ Winnie Fredrickson, 95, of Alcester, South Dakota, formerly of Hudson, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Alcester Care and Rehab Center.

Private family inurnment of her cremated remains will be next to her husband, Gerald, in Eden Cemetery at Hudson, South Dakota. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9th at the Porter Funeral Home in Hudson.

Winnie Fredrickson was born September 28, 1928, on a farm near Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Dick and Anna (Reinalda) Medema. She married Gerald Fredrickson on February 8, 1957, at the Canton Lutheran Church in Canton, South Dakota. Together they farmed northwest of Hudson, South Dakota, where they raised their three children. Winnie helped Gerald with everything on the farm where they had cattle, crops, and up to 6000 laying hens. Winnie made clothes for their children, always had a big garden, and was a great cook, learning cooking from Gerald. She often would feed all of the farm help with great meals.

Gerald died on November 22, 1996, and Winnie remained on the farm for another 11 years taking care of her yard and flowers and walking every day for the mail. She was a cook at the Hudson Public School from 1968 to 1980. She later moved to Alcester, South Dakota and to the Alcester Care and Rehab Center in October of 2019.

Winnie was a long-time member of the Hudson Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Agnes Spieker of Canton, South Dakota; son, Warren Fredrickson of Alcester, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Geneva Medema of Lennox, South Dakota; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; also, many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Anna; husband, Gerald; son, Wayne; a baby sister, Klazina; 4 brothers, George, Raymond and wife Alyce, Pete and wife Jennie, and Clarence; and 2 sisters, Ann Medema and Clazina Sorum and her husband Robert.
