Doon, IA: Willard M. Post, 82, of Doon, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 20, at 10:00 AM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. To listen to the service please dial 1-856-799-9625. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Hillside Cemetery of Doon. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Thursday, October 19, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Memorials may be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley is assisting the family with arrangements.

Willard Myron Post was born to Simon and Gertrude (Meendering) Post on November 23, 1940, in Iowa, near Hudson, South Dakota. He grew up on the farm and attended country school through the 8th grade. After graduating he worked on the farm. He joined the National Guard out of Canton, South Dakota in November 1959 and served for 6 years. In October 1961, Willard was called back to active duty for 8 months. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard in November 1965.

On December 27, 1962, Willard married Janet (Van Voorst) and the couple lived on the farm north of Doon, Iowa. He continued to farm with his dad and brother Ken. After he quit farming, Willard and Janet moved to Doon. Willard worked in construction and later at Kooima Manufacturing in Rock Valley, Iowa.

He loved time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Willard enjoyed the many trips he and Janet went on as well as the winters they spent in Mission, Texas. Willard also liked fishing at lakes and in Canada. He was a life-long member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Janet Post of Doon; 2 children and their spouses: son, Terry (Brenda) Post, and daughter, Pam (Scott) Van Engen, both of Doon; 4 grandchildren, Zach (Annie) Van Engen, Andrea (Toby) Upkes, Kole Van Engen, and Samantha (Kolten) Van Voorst; 4 great-grandchildren, Lily Upkes, Charles Upkes, Owen Van Engen and Alaina Upkes. He is also survived by his brother, Ken (Tracy) Post; sister, Wilma Van Bemmel; and siblings-in-law, Joan Post, Wayne Van Voorst, Sheryl (Norm) Vande Berg, James (Linda) Van Voorst, Carl (Jan) Van Voorst, Esther Van Der Brink, Marv (Janice) Van Voorst, Norma (Steve) Van Vliet, Ruth Vander Helm, Leann (Mike) Klootwyk, and Dave (Lisa) Van Voorst.

Those who preceded Willard in death were his parents; parents-in-law; brother, Marv Post; brothers-in-law, Alvin Van Bemmel and Ron Van Der Brink; sister-in-law, Arlene Van Voorst; and an infant daughter, Judy Annette Post.
