Mrs. Phyllis Wissink, age 95, of Sioux Center, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center.

There will be a family prayer service on Friday, October 13, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull, followed by interment at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a memorial service on Friday, at 2:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Refreshments and a time of visitation with the family will take place at the church following the service.

Phyllis Geraldene was born on August 8, 1928, in Hull, to August and Gertie (Vis) Smit. She was raised in the Hull area and attended the Welcome #6 Country School.

She was united in marriage to Marvin Edward Wissink on October 30, 1946. For 42 years, they lived and farmed on Marvin’s parents’ farm, until retiring into Sioux Center in 1988. As her children reached high school, she started working at the local egg factory and drapery shop, and in retirement, as a greeter at Walmart. Marvin passed away on March 22, 2009, in Sioux Center, after more than 62 years of marriage.

Phyllis was a former member of the First Reformed Churches in Hull and Sioux Center and currently a member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She participated in the Women’s Guild and taught Sunday School classes.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, crocheting blankets for all of her grandchildren, playing the piano, and singing while she worked on her projects. She did not like idle hands, and more recently started making puzzles and doing word finds to keep them busy.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Alvin and Rosemary Wissink, of Waconia, Minnesota; Milton Wissink, of Orange City; Doyle and Jan Wissink, of Hull; and Gloria and Scott Beernink, of Sioux Center; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Joel Swanson, Nathan and Steph Wissink, Robin and Ernie Parker, Stacia and Joshua Rath, CeAnn and Donovan Draayer, Amber and Bob Minard, Justin and Kathy Wissink, Joshua and Aleisha Wissink, Molly and Brett Wilker, and Sam and Bliss Beernink; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Luella Krommendyk, of Sioux Center; and Judy Kersbergen, of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers and their wives, Howard and Arlene Smit, of Hull; and Alan and Rose Smit, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Mary Van Otterloo, of Rock Valley; and Geneva Wissink, of Sibley; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Wissink; three brothers, Arnold Smit, and his wife, Betty; Delmar Smit, and his wife, Ardel; and Alfred Smit as an infant; a sister and her husband, Darlene and Harold Van Otterloo; a sister-in-law and her husband, Hilda and Arthur Ten Haken; and four brothers-in-law, Bud Krommendyk; James Kersbergen; Martin Wissink, and his wife, Caroline; and Laurence Wissink.

Memorials will be given to Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice.
