Mrs. T. H. Dunham dies Saturday Night.
Was one of Sioux county’s Pioneers and Had Been an Invalid for Many Years.
Mrs. Thomas H. Dunham died at her home one mile south of Hawarden about midnight on the nigh tof August 19, 1911. For thirteen years she had been a constant sufferer and for the past six years she had been bedfast, a helpless invalid, so the death came as a relief to her physical being. During all these years she bore her suffering with fortitude, and by strength of mind was able to bear her infirmities and pain without complaint.

The funeral services were held at the held at 2:230 Tuesday afternoon and was attended by a large number of old friends of the family. Rev. John Erb pastor of the Baptist church preached the funeral sermon. The members of the Eastern Star attended the funeral in a body and carried out their beautiful ritual service at the grave.

Irena Othilia Harder was born in Delaware county Ohio, April 9, 1847. (to Ew Harder 1807 and Rebecca 1807) She was married to Thomas H. Dunham Sep 2, 1866. They moved to Marshall county IA, in the spring of 1868 and in 1869 came to Sioux County. Where they settled in what is known as the Ward farm, five miles south of Hawarden and endured all the hardships of pioneer days.

Six children were born to them of whom five survive: Mrs. M. A. Reak of Pipestone MN; Mrs. O. P. Nowlin of Fort Dodge; John E. of Minneapolis; and Homer L. and Bessie of Hawarden. Her husband preceded her in death passing away Nov 13, 1904. He was one of the prominent men of Sioux County and served as sheriff continuously for ten years in the early days of the county.

Research note: E. R. Harder born 1807 PA died 21 Feb 1895 Oceana Co. MI wife Rebecca Dunham 1809-1863, Children Emeline Harder 1837-1915, Irena Othilda Harder 1847-1911 and Edson Harder 1863.
