Marian Verschoor age 98 of Carlsbad, California and formerly of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on September 23, 2023 in Carlsbad, California. Her services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon with Msgr. Kenneth Seifried ~ officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa.

Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

MARIAN E. VERSCHOOR

December 19, 1924 – September 23, 2023

Marian E. Verschoor, age 98, of Carlsbad, California and formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on September 23, 2023, in Carlsbad, California. The daughter of Nickolas and Josephine (Golden) Reuter, Marian was born December 19, 1924, in Granville, Iowa. Marian received her education at St Anthony Catholic Grade School and Hospers High School. On May 26, 1942, Marian was united in marriage to Joseph Verschoor at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers. They were married for 74 years. Marian and Joe made their home in Hospers, Iowa for many years. They moved to Sheldon, Iowa in 1973. Marian enjoyed attending toy shows, auctions and garage sales with her husband, Joe. In February of 2022, Marian moved to Carlsbad, California to be near family.

Marian was a very active member of St. Anthony Guild in Hospers, St. Patrick Guild in Sheldon and served as president of both Guilds. Marian was a member of the Hospers American Legion Auxiliary where she also served as Secretary/Treasurer. Marian served on the committee for the Hospers Centennial and the committee for raising funds for the Hospers swimming pool. Marian had a love for flowers (her favorite flowers were anything the color of purple), gardening, cooking, watching the ocean waves and sitting in the warm sun.

Marian was preceded in death by her Husband, Joseph, her parents, her stepfather, Nicholas Hoffman and her siblings, Adeline Byres, Delores Reuter, Joe Reuter and Marvin Reuter.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Shiryl Reuter and her 7 children, Donna, Brenda, Judy, Mary, Jeanne, Pam and Ann. Marian is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Scott, Sandy, Tim, Todd, Christine, and Samantha, 9 great grandchildren, Stephanie, Kelly, Robbie, Martha, Steven, Anthony, Jordan, Chloe, Emma and 2 great great-grandchildren, Jayden and Harper.
