Edna Mae DeBerg was born on September 24, 1936 to Ed and Gertrude (Huisman) Broesder in their home in Matlock, Iowa. She grew up on farms near the Little Rock area with her eight siblings. She attended Midland #6 Country school.

On September 30, 1957, Edna was united in marriage to Martin DeBerg in Worthington, Minnesota. The couple spent their married lives together in the Sibley and Little Rock areas. They were blessed with three children, David, Dorin, and Monica. Martin passed in 1974 and Edna raised her three children by herself.

Edna began working at a young age as a nanny for a family in Rock Rapids. The day before her 18th birthday she began working at Sibley Egg and Poultry where she worked for 24 years, and then went to work for Campbell’s Soup Company in Worthington until her retirement in 1997. She always drove a carload of other ladies to work in all the weather issues from sunny to snow and blizzards. They did not miss work. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock where she enjoyed being an active part of the quilting circle and women’s group in charge of food serving at various events. She lived a simple life but enjoyed embroidery which her father taught her. She would always make a set of dish towels for the Church Bazaar and they would bring in a lot of money. Every grandchild, niece, nephew, sisters, and brothers would receive a set for any special occasion.

She could be found embroidering, putting puzzles together, watching sports or Wheel of Fortune, word searches, on the phone with someone finding out current events. She loved the Corn Show parade and button drawings. While in the nursing home she loved watching the birds out her window and playing BINGO. Her sisters Tena and Henri would have to constantly get bird seed and fill the feeders in all weather.

Edna moved to the Sibley Care Center after suffering from a stroke in July of 2022. She was there until her passing on August 25, 2023. The staff remember her for her big smile and laugh.

Her biggest source of pride were her four grandchildren. She loved hearing from them, and she never forgot an important moment for them and others by sending thoughtful cards. Her smile widened and her mood was ecstatic whenever she was with them.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Monica and Rob Peace of Maumee, OH; four grandchildren, Robbie, Maddison, Khalil and Kendall Peace, all of Maumee, OH; siblings, Gertrude (Darrell) Boyenga, Kathryn Klaassen, Beverly Luitjens, Henrietta Lupkes, Allen (Deb) Broesder, Tena Dirks, and Dale (CC) Broesder; sister-in-law, Ruby Johannes; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Gertrude Broesder; husband, Marty; sons, David DeBerg and Dorin DeBerg; infant sister, Mary Joan; brother, Edgar Broesder; brothers-in-law, Charles Klaassen, Marlyn Luitjens, Roger Lupkes, and Ray Dirks; and sister-in-law, Beverly Broesder.
