Charles Lee “Chuck” Marienau was born May 4, 1948, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Norman C. and Neva R. (Mitchell) Marienau. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1966. He served with the United States Navy from 1966 to 1971 in Vietnam where he was touched with Agent Orange, hence health issues followed him home. Chuck was able to visit 13 countries and loved the ocean, and became life-long friends with several crew members. He sailed on the USS Eversole where he ran the ship’s store and did officer’s laundry, and often used extra starch on certain articles of clothing!

Following the Navy, Chuck returned to Hawarden, Iowa and attended Sioux Empire Community College. He worked as a carpenter for many years, loving to work with wood of any kind. He also loved to hunt and fish. The last few years his favorite hobby was being “home”, sitting on his deck, drinking coffee, smoking, and watching the neighbor Lilly and special friends John and Amy Kennedy and family. He spent hours with his old school friend Denny (Oh my the stories!) He very much loved his grandkids and Christ, life, and love.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Sandy Segar Marienau; 3 daughters from a previous marriage, Molly Keuffer (Dan) of Sioux City, Iowa, Rachel Baxter (Garrick) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Greta Rogers (Scott Sirovatka) of Sioux City; blessed with son, Matt Segar (Kristi) of Sioux Center, Iowa; sister, Lycia Anderson (Curt) of Hawarden, Iowa; sister-in-law, Barb Marienau of Sheldon, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Matt and Kristi’s: Brett, Trevor, Eli, and Maci, Molly and Dan’s: Abigail, Baylen, Christian, and Danny, Rachel and Garrick’s: Zander, Emmelia, Boston, and Knox, and Greta’s: Bella and Alexander; and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Norm and Neva; and brother, Jeff.

“I’ll miss you till I’m back with you,” Sandy.
