Jonathan was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on April 19, 2004, to Cal and Dawn (Hoskins) Van't Land, and welcomed home by his big sister, Caroline. During the first 6½ years of his life, Jonathan lived in Lakeville, Minnesota. In 2011, he moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he attended Isaac Newton Christian Academy and Peace Christian Reformed Church for the next 6½ years. Jonathan and his family moved again in 2017 to Severance, Colorado, where he lived for the next 6 years of his life. In Colorado, he attended Immanuel Christian Reformed Church and graduated with high honors from Resurrection Christian School. Jonathan planned to attend LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, majoring in mechanical engineering.

Jonathan enjoyed boating, hunting, camping, biking, hiking, and going to car shows. He grew up riding on the back of his dad’s motorcycle until he purchased his own for faster adventures. Jonathan spent many hours playing with nerf and airsoft guns, racing his remote-control car, tinkering, and fixing things. He loved photography, engineering, robotics, music, and art. He played soccer for three years in elementary school and joined the track and field team in middle school. Jonathan was an active member in church activities, engaging in Cadets from kindergarten through sixth grade, and continuing in the middle and high school youth groups. Jonathan played trumpet in the school band from fourth grade through high school graduation, participating in the symphonic band, pep band, jazz band, and pit band for the school’s musical productions. Jonathan passionately devoted his time to Lego League and First Tech Challenge with his robotics teams, winning many awards and competing in the world competition. During his senior year, he completed an internship in a mechanic shop and continued summer employment there.

Despite his many activities, Jonathan always made time for his friends. He was a trustworthy and caring friend, a hard worker, and a servant leader. He continuously served those around him as often and in as many ways as possible.

Jonathan is survived by his parents Cal and Dawn, sister Caroline (Alex) Brown; grandparents Keith and Char Hoskins; uncles and aunts: Rob and Bonnie (Hoskins) Van’t Land, Kent and Nancy Hoskins, Jay and Julie Van’t Land, Clint and Lisa Van’t Land, Jon and Sharon Van’t Land, Jo Van’t Land; cousins: Drew (Julianne), J.C. (Ellie), Gabe (Kayla), Jessica, Jake (Kelsey), Jon (Hollyn), Stephanie, Brandon (Abby), Shona (Adam), Ian, Brent (Krista), Jenna (Lando), Jeff, and many extended family members.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his cousin, Dylan Van’t Land, and will be buried next to his grandparents, Jake and Carol Van’t Land.

There will be a memorial service held in Colorado and a funeral service and interment in Iowa.
