Maggie Doorenbos age 90 of Sioux Center, died on August 2, 2023, at Friendly Horizons Care Center in Sioux Center.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, with family present from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

A funeral service for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

The Doorenbos family prefers memorials be directed to Friendly Horizons Memory Care.

Magdalene Grace Doorenbos was born August 23, 1932, to Louis and Elizabeth (Uittenbogaard) Alons near Hospers, Iowa. She attended the Christian School for 9 years. She attended Hospers public high school for a year and later graduated from Western Christian High school in Hull, Iowa in 1948.

On November 15, 1950, she was united in marriage to Rudolph J.E. Meyer in Hospers. In 1964, the couple moved to Sioux Center, Iowa where she was a homemaker and worked at the creamery. To this union five children were born: Larry, Linda, Eve, Jeff, and Suzette.

Rudy passed away on December 30, 1985.

On March 15, 1991, Maggie was joined in marriage to Harlin Doorenbos. They lived in Sioux Center where she worked at Harkers/Tyson Foods for 17 years. She was on the election board for many years and was a flagger for Sioux County for 10 years.

Maggie loved to bake bread and did that most of her married life. She also enjoyed word searches and camping. Harlin and Maggie spent the winter months for 14 years after semi retiring in Donna, Texas.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the pride of her life. She crocheted many baby blankets for them.

Maggie is survived by her husband, Harlin Doorenbos; children, Larry Meyer of Oakdale, Pennsylvania, Linda (Roger) Wissink of Orange City, Iowa, Eve Swanson of Iowa City, Iowa, Suzette (Bruce) Vonk of Sioux Center and daughter-in-law, Sheila Meyer of Sioux Center; 19 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; step children, Wanda Vos, Kevin Doorenbos, Illadene (Randy) Renken; brother, Bernard (Cindy) Alons of Denton, TX; along with many extended family and friends.

Maggie was preceded in death by her first husband, Rudy; son, Jeff Meyer; brothers, Arthur (Rosella) Alons and Daniel (Henrietta) Alons; sister, Mary (Arie) Van Buren; daughter-in-law, Elaine Meyer; and stepson, Gary Vos.
