Johnson, Abraham born Oct 17, 1835 Smaland, Sweden. Died Oct 7, 1920 Hawarden Iowa.

Abraham Johnson, a well know resident of this city, passed away at this home in Hawarden Sunday afternoon after an illness of nearly two years, at the advanced age of nearly 85 years. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Baptist Temple conducted by John Lindblom of Big Springs and elder W. A. Mc Kibben of Sioux city, and interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Abraham Johnson was born in Smaland Sweden Oct 17, 1835. His mother died when he was three years old when he was taken into the home of an older brother, but was early thrown upon his own resources. He was converted in early life and became a member of the Baptist church in Sweden. On Dec 25 he was united in marriage to with Sophia Louise Larson and a short time later they came to America. He purchased a farm near Humboldt Kan. Where they lived for six years and endured many pioneer hardships. After living for several years in Chicago and Frankfort, MI, he moved his family toa homestead in Turner County SD, where they lived until 1892 when they moved to another farm in union County SD. Fourteen years ago this fall he retired from the farm and came to Hawarden where he has since made his home.

The following April the family circle was broken by the death of his daughter Hannah, and on Oct 12, 1912, his companion was laid to rest. Nearly two years ago he was stricken with paralysis and remained a patient sufferer until death released him at 3:45 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Oct 3rd, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 16 days.

He leaves to mourn the loss of a loving father, his two daughters, Ida and Emily of this city, and four sons, Joseph of San Diego, CA, George of Wichita Falls, Texas, William of Hawarden, and Arthur of Geraldine MT. He also leaves six grandchildren.

The deceased always loved his Bible and was fond of relating the Bible stories to his family and friends. He frequently expressed his faith in the Bible promises.
