HAWARDEN, IOWA – Charles Edward Lausen, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa. He was 97 years of age.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at American Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with Pastor Kandi Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral.

The family prefers memorials be directed to the American Lutheran Church or St. Croix Hospice.

Charles Edward Lausen was born January 3, 1926 at South Shore, South Dakota to Laue and Gladys (Southwick) on the family farm. Charles married the love of his life Doris Lohr on August 23, 1949 in Watertown, South Dakota. He worked at a packing plant in Watertown. When that plant closed, they moved to Hawarden, Iowa to help build and work at the Kane Packing Plant. Charles then worked for the City of Hawarden until he retired. As a second job, he would help do farm work. He helped Duane Fickbohm on his farm into his late 80’s.

Charles liked collecting tractors and was a charter member of the American Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his five daughters, Janice (Darrell) Reinking of Johnston, Iowa, Nancy (Russ) Larson, Tammy (Robert) Horton and Renee (Steve) Gaul all of Hawarden and Shelly (Steve) Busch of Alton, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Jesse, Jerrame, Josh, Kelly, Travis, Brandon, Derek, and Tanner; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, RoseAnn McDonald of Stephenville, Texas; sister-in-law, Barbara Ries of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 2 brothers-in-law, Allen Lohr and Allan Hansen both of Sioux Falls; special friend, Duane Fickbohm; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Doris; siblings, Merle, Darrell, Genevieve, and Harvey; sisters-in-law, Donna, Mabel, Darlene, Char, Daphne, and Stella; and brothers-in-law, Marv, Chet, Russell, Orvil, Al, J.D., and Virgil.
