Hull Index of Jan 6, 1905 Death of Mother Steffen.
Saturday evening , Mrs. Louise Steffen, mother to A. F. Steffen passed away after a short illness. The funeral took place Monday from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northeast of Hull, the interment occurring in the church yard adjoining. Mrs. Steffen, whose maiden name was Woellers, was born in Rups, Pommero, Germany on March 12, 1820 being therefor nearly eighty five years old.

In 1852 she was married to Ludwig Steffen. In 1871 the family came to America, settling at Clinton, Iowa. In 1878, they removed to Walnut, IA and five years later they removed to Hull where their home has been. Four children were born to the couple three daughters, and a son, the oldest daughter having died about ten years ago. In 1887 four years after coming to Hull the husband died leaving his wife to make her home with her only son. A. F. who is so well known to all of this community. Mother Steffen could with difficulty understand English and for that reason she has been of retiring disposition. During the last few years she has been shut in and rarely went out of the Steffen home. On account of her physical infirmities she was some what burdensome to her and her passing away was doubtless one of her cherished hopes. Her two daughters and their husbands, C. L. L__eck of Artesian SD, and I. A. Christianson of Holstein, were here to join with their brother in paying their last and duties so the one who from their babyhood had been their dearest and best friend
