James "Jim" Koerselman age 81, of Sheldon, Iowa formerly of Boyden, Iowa, died Monday, April 10, 2023, at his home in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Demco Community Center in Boyden, IA.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, IA with Rev. Kevin Gingerich, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sheridan Township Cemetery at Boyden, IA.

James Edward Koerselman was born April 27, 1941, at home, to Benjamin and Margaret (Symens) Koerselman. Jim grew up in George where he attended school and graduated from George High School in 1959. He continued his education and graduated from Macalister College in St. Paul, MN. He was united in marriage to Judith Dethmers on December 22, 1961, and to this union were born three wonderful children, Kimberley, Robert and Jayme. Jim and Judie made their home in Minneapolis for a year and in Kansas City for not quite a year before moving back to Boyden, where they resided for forty-five years. Jim started working for his father-in-law, Robert Dethmers at Demco on February 1, 1964. Jim enjoyed almost 60 years of helping lead the Demco Team. Jim sat on numerous boards within the community and industries through the years. Jim enjoyed having a structured lifestyle, he loved his routine. He was a fierce competitor and thoroughly enjoyed the dynamics of the game. He possessed a steadiness and strong commitment to business, faith and his family. He was disciplined in multiple areas, generous to many with no recognition desired and exuded a quiet, yet commanding respect. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, playing cribbage, pinochle and golfing. After Judie passed in 2009, he met Marilyn Ruyter and they were united in marriage on January 2, 2010, at Orange City, IA. There were three bonus children, Michelle, Shauna and Scott along with several bonus grandchildren. For the next 13 years they enjoyed their time together and they split their time between Iowa and Arizona. This past Monday, April 10, 2023, Jim died peacefully at his home in Sheldon, IA at the age of eighty-one.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Sheldon; his three children, Kimberley A. and her husband, Kevin Ten Haken of Hull; Robert J. and his wife Laura Koerselman of Boyden; and Jayme L. and his wife Erinn Koerselman of Spokane, WA; along with ten grandchildren, Kelsey (Ryan) Lindahl, Kylen (Marcy) Ten Haken, Kendall (Amelia) Ten Haken, Kaleb (Elizabeth) Ten Haken, Hailey (Ross) Doehrmann, Mading (Renee) Thok, James (Alli) Koerselman, Laiken Koerselman, Noah Koerselman and Rowan Koerselman; eight great grandchildren; his siblings, Ellyn Watson of Mesa, AZ; Ben (Karen) Koerselman of Dear Valley, UT and Marvin (Nola) Koerselman of Westminster, CO.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Margaret and his wife, Judith.
