Michael Lottman, age 39, of Rock Rapids, IA, formerly of Alvord, IA, died unexpectedly at his residence in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 21st at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Father Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be Monday, February 20th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA.

Michael Ron Lottman was born April 11, 1983 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was raised in Alvord, IA and attended West Lyon Community Schools where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He graduated from West Lyon High School with the class of 2002 and then worked as a welder at Valley Machine in Rock Valley, IA. Following the 911 attacks, Mike joined the U.S. Army where he served during Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 101st Airborne Division as a combat engineer. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Medal along with many other decorations, medals and badges. He was honorably discharged and returned home, where he worked as a driver for Fed Ex Field.

Mike enjoyed watching football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and any other kind of sporting event. He also loved spending time with kids and playing catch with them. Mike will be remembered for his kind heart.

Mike is survived by his parents, Leon and Lora Burgers of Alvord, IA; a sister, Sara (Jason) Roskup of Sioux Falls, SD; maternal grandmother, Joan Lottman of Larchwood, IA; paternal grandfather, Gilbert Burgers of Rock Valley, IA; two nieces, Jada and Alyse Roskup; other extended family, military family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rollo Lottman; grandmother, Wilma Burgers; and uncle, Dale Pottebaum.
