Kenneth Dale was born on June 3, 1942, in Hull, one of five children born to Berend and Josephine (Kaster) Tiedeman. He grew up on a farm near Hull and attended country school and the Hull High School. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army serving as a radar technician stationed at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, and later in Washington State.

Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Carol Van Beek on September 27, 1966, in Sanborn. They made their home on a farm near Hull, where, in addition to farming Ken was also a seed corn area supervisor and shelled corn for other area farmers. After retiring, Ken and Carol moved to Sioux Center, and spent the winter months living in Mesa, Arizona, for eighteen years and one winter in Brownsville, Texas.

Mr. Tiedeman was a life-long member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull. He liked being outdoors, and was an avid boater, fisherman, camper, and golfer. He could often be seen riding through town in his side-by-side. He also enjoyed playing cards, and somehow seemed to always win. Above all, Ken enjoyed spending time with his family, who will remember his playful personality as a prankster and joker.

Survivors include his wife of more than 56 years, Carol, of Sioux Center; three daughters and their families, Michelle Rens, of Hull, and her children, Brittany and Jordan Holtrop, and their son, Brooks; Heather and Thomas Hofmeyer, and their daughter, Myla and one expected in September; and Emalee Rens; Tamara, and her husband, Chad Smith, of Waukee, and their children, Meghan Smith and Asheton Smith; and Sharla, and her husband, Chuck Emery, of Champlin, Minnesota, and their children, Jayden and Grant Siemonsma, and their children, Riggin and Silas; Morgan Crull, and her daughter, B’Elanna; Hunter Crull; Trevor Emery; Sierra Emery; and Autumn Emery; a brother and his wife, Harlan and Dorothy Tiedeman, of Beresford, South Dakota; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Dale and Lori Shumaker, of Sioux Falls; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Travis Tiedeman; three sisters, Brenda Tiedeman, Susan Shumaker, and one in infancy.

Memorials will be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or Sioux Center Health.
