Alfred De Vries, 92, of Sioux Center, Iowa died, Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the Maurice First Reformed Church of Maurice, Iowa. Interment will follow the prayer service in Sherman Township Cemetery of rural Maurice, with military honors by Doornink-Brunsting American Legion Post 199 and VFW Post 6129 of Sioux Center, IA.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday at the Maurice First Reformed Church with Rev. Wick Hubers officiating.

Visitation with family present will be held from 2-4PM Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The De Vries family prefer memorials be directed to Midwest Honor Flight.

Alfred De Vries was born on January 3, 1931, to Gerrit and Alice (Hoogland) De Vries on a farm by rural Orange City. He was raised in rural Maurice.

On January 14, 1955, Alfred was united in marriage to Evelyn Van Horssen at Maurice Reformed Church. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954, first in Fort Riley, Kansas and then Germany. After his service he lived in Orange City for five years, where he worked as a plumber with Plasier Plumbing and Heating. He later was a mechanic for farm machinery at Orange City Implement, then moved to the farm in rural Maurice where he farmed for ­­36 years until he retired and then moved to Sioux Center. He was a resident of the Royale Meadows Care Center since November of 2020.

He was a member of Maurice Reformed Church and served as a deacon and elder, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, care elder, and helped plant a church in Le Mars, Iowa. He traveled with Evelyn to all 50 states and many countries and enjoyed going on many mission trips.
