There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Robert Pollema officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Lou was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 12, 1936, the oldest of four children born to John and Madeline (Speyer) Oosterhouse. She grew up in Cutlerville, a southern suburb of Grand Rapids, where she attended the Cutlerville Christian School. After graduating from the Cutlerville Christian High School in 1953, she started working at Pine Rest Psychiatric Hospital in Grand Rapids.

She met Howard Wayne Grevengoed, a young man from Middleburg, Iowa, through a mutual friend, and they were married on September 27, 1957, in Grand Rapids. The newlyweds moved to Northwest Iowa, where they initially made their home near George. They later moved to a farm near Hull, where they raised their family. In 1974, the family moved to a home in Hull, and Marilyn started working as the cook at the Hull Christian School, a position she held for 36 years. She also worked at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, preparing meals on the weekends, as well as providing food for numerous weddings, anniversaries, and funerals. In June of 2022, she and Howard moved to Rock Valley, where they were residents of Riverview Ridge Retirement Community.

Mrs. Grevengoed was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, where she regularly participated in Coffee Break and Bible study. She liked spending time in her garden and watching baseball, especially when the Minnesota Twins were playing. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed hosting countless family meals, often on Sunday afternoon. Marilyn loved the Lord, and her desire to be with her Heavenly Father was evident as her health declined.

She is survived by her husband of more than 65 years, Howard, of Rock Valley; six children and their spouses, Roger and Minerva Grevengoed, of Doon; Linda and Robert Jones, of Grand Junction, Colorado; Nancy and Mark De Nooy, of Denver, Colorado; Twyla and Russ Smith, of Englewood, Colorado; Joni Brands and Curt Loch, of Bend, Oregon; and Shelly and Kyle Wassenaar, of Orange City; 20 grandchildren, Scott (Sara) Grevengoed, Brad (Nanci) Grevengoed, Amy (Brian) Stearns, Michael (Randi) Grevengoed, Garrett Jones, Caroline Jones, Kelsie (Luke) Ruter, Keaton De Nooy, Danika (Gabe) Del Rio, Zachary (Emily) Smith, Taylor (Hannah) Smith, Kiana (Rachel Wiederspiel) Brands, Kaitlyn (Jared) Reinitz, Jacob (Angel) Brands, Katelyn Loch, Tanner Loch, Tyler (Kristen) Wassenaar, Brody Wassenaar, Dalton Vande Weerd, Kia Wassenaar; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Ditmar and Rose (Jerry) Vande Vegt, and a brother, Larry (Bonnie) Oosterhouse, all of Grand Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Kroese, of Sioux Center, and Wilma Grevengoed, of Hull; a brother-in-law, Alvin (Eileen) Grevengoed; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
