Betty Joanne was born on August 21, 1932, at her “Warrenville” family home in Lake Wilson, Minnesota, the oldest of four children born to Edwin C. and Winifred Lucille (Madison) Warren. When she was a child, her family moved to California, and then to Pipestone, Minnesota, where she attended the Pipestone High School. Following her graduation, she worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and took classes at the Mankato State College.

On October 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Cheshier. They made their home in Texas, where Betty attended the University of Houston, Laboratory Nursery School and worked part time as a teacher. She later worked at the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office, Court House, and Jail Building as a medico-legal secretary and receptionist. In 1966, Betty and her children returned to Pipestone, where she worked at Sturdevant’s Auto Electric in the general office and inventory control, while earning her master’s degree from Mankato State College. She loved to drive and took her children on many trips across the country.

On June 12, 1987, she married Norman Harold Henry Tiedemann in Pipestone. Together they made their home in Hull, where they were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and Betty served as the part-time church secretary. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Adopt a Grandparent Program. Betty enjoyed quilting and sewing in her free time and going Polka dancing with Norm. Norman passed away on June 11, 2018, in Hull, just one day short of their 31st wedding anniversary.

Survivors include her two children, Cathryn Bjorklund, of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; and John Cheshier, of San Diego, California; three stepchildren, Nancy, and her husband, Kevin Jansen, of Orange City; Beth, and her husband, Russ Zomer, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Lois, and her husband, Didier Koffi, of San Diego; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cheshier (at the age of twenty); a son-in-law, Keith Bjorklund; a stepson, Richard Tiedemann; two sisters, Myrna Swenson and Judith Alice Madison (at the age of fourteen); and a brother and his wife, Warren Edwin and Kathaleen Madison.

Memorials will be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
