Gerrit Slothouber, for many years a member of the Middleburg Reformed church, a progressive farmer and respected citizen, died Wednesday morning at this home in Orange City, He would have been 73 years of age on May 8.

Mr. Slothouber was born at Vorden, Gelderland, the Netherlands and married Miss Antonia Willemsen there in 1881. In the year 1884 they emigrated to America, coming to Alton where for a time they live with his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Willemsen who farmed what is now the Henry J. Scholten place northeast of Alton, Later they moved to Middleburg, farming one half mile northeast of there, where they lived until moving into Orange City a few years ago.

Four children survive their father; Gertrude Mrs. James Ver Hoef of Middleburg; Minnie, Mrs. Walter Vander Wilt of Middleburg: Gerrit, farming west of Boyden and Albert of Middleburg. He is also survived by his brother Anton who now make his home in the Pioneer home at Orange City, for many years a resident of Alton.

Funeral service will be held this Saturday at 12:30 P.M. at the home and at one o’clock at the First Ref. Church, Orange city, Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment will take place at the Middleburg cemetery.
