A Family Tree report on ancestry.com done by others has Charles A. Slifer born 18 Oct 1864 Washington Co. Maryland died 19 Jun 1936 same place. His wife Anna A. Poffenberger 1862-1943, no children listed. It does state that they lived in Grant Sioux County IA in the 1895 and 1900 census.

Luther, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Slifer died Thursday morning, aged 5 months. The funeral was held Saturday forenoon. Mrs. Poffenberger, sister-in-law of Mrs. Slifer came down from Mankato, Minnesota to attend the funeral of Slifer’s infant son.
