Jan Roelofs was born 29 Dec 1838 Ede Gelderland, Netherlands, his parents were Everd Cornelis Roelofson 1789-1856 and Nennetje Aarissa Top 1802-1881, he was survived by his 2nd wife Martha Maatje Tijssen born 6 Aug 1852 Ede Gelderland Netherlands. He was a father to about a total of ten children.

John Roelofsen died Monday evening aged sixty five years from heart failure. For six weeks in July and august he was in the asylum at Cherokee. He came to Alton twenty years ago and leaves a wideow and six children. The funeral was preached Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Staplekamp of Orange City. He was a brother of Mrs. John De Kruif of Hospers.
