Carol Moret, age 71, passed away on Nov. 12, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, Ia. Carol Kaye was born to Wm. J. and Jeanette (Rons) Moret on March 16, 1951 at Sheldon, Ia. She was baptized in the First Reformed Church of Boyden, Ia.

Carol enjoyed the first 6 years of her life on her parents’ farm southeast of Boyden. Carol’s mother passed away in July of 1956 and the following year she went to live at the Glenwood State School in Glenwood, Ia. She worked in the laundry during her teenage years.

In 1976 Carol moved back to Sheldon. She was one of the first three residents to move into the newly constructed Village Northwest as soon as it opened its doors to serve persons with disabilities. Carol was one of the village athletes that competed in International Special Olympics games in the Twin Cities in 1991, competing with 6,000 athletes. She lived at the Village for 42 years, and in 2018 when she moved to the nursing home she held the record as the longest-tenured resident of the village.

Carol had a quiet, content personality and often surprised staff with her sense of humor. Carol’s family members are very grateful that she was able to reside at one of the finest facilities in the nation, where everyone showed genuine Christian love, support and encouragement to Carol. She grew to love many of her care-givers and housemates throughout the 42 years she lived at the village, and they became her extended family.

In October, 2018 Carol became a resident at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in George. She received loving care from their staff for four years until her passing.

Carol is survived by four sisters: LaVonne Grooters, Linda Heiliger, Cheryl Bennett, and Marcia Sietstra; three sisters-in-law: Wineva Moret, Max Moret, Doris Moret; and two brothers-in-law: Phil Sietstra, Rod Grooters. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers: Bud Moret, Marv Moret, Harv Moret, Butch Moret; 1 sister, Nelva Rohlfs; 3 brothers-in-law: Bill Heiliger, Ken Bennett and LeRoy Rohlfs; and 1 sister-in-law, Verna Moret.
