Wilbur Hof, 106 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Heritage at Northern Hills Assisted Living. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Liz Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Wilbur was born on May 31, 1916 on a farm East of Trosky, Minnesota, the second of six sons born to John and Anna (Postma) Hof. He attended country schools in Sioux and O’Brien Counties, graduating from high school in Pella, Iowa with the Class of 1935. Wilbur attended National Radio Schools in Los Angeles, California from 1936 to 1937. Upon returning to Sheldon, Iowa, he drove over-the-road fuel tank trucks.

Wilbur was united in marriage to Hazel Potter in August of 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City in 1944, where he was employed with Wincharger, the Milwaukee Road, and Swifts Packing. In 1953, Wilbur began his career with KVTV (KCAU) Channel 9, retiring in 1981. He married Shirley McGrory in April of 1990. Wilbur was a long-time member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union.

Wilbur enjoyed repairing television sets and radios, fishing, golfing, and playing any card game.

Wilbur is survived by his wife Shirley of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; daughters Jane Brubaker of Erie Colorado and Milly McCullough of Longmont, Colorado; son Galen (Jackie) Hof of Sioux City, Iowa; Step-sons Mark (Ginny) McGrory of Kansas City, and Steve (Cheryl) McGrory of Sioux City; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, his first wife Hazel, a son Gary Hof, and step-son Mike McGrory.
