Myrna Eunice was born on August 13, 1921, on a farm in O’Brien County, the oldest of four children born to William and Barbara (Kaiser) Ver Hoef. At the age of four, her family moved to Archer. Following her graduation from Archer High School, at the age of sixteen, she attended the Sioux City Academy of Beauty Culture.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Earl Van Pelt on April 25, 1944, in Sioux City, while he was on furlough during World War II. They made their home in Orange City and were blessed with six children. They also spent seventeen retirement years in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, and later moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community and the Prairie Ridge Care Center, both in Orange City. Ray passed away on January 27, 2015, in Orange City, after more than seventy years of marriage.

Myrna was a beautician for almost forty years and owned and operated Myrna’s Beauty Shop out of her home. She also enjoyed quilting, tole painting, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Pelt were members of the American Reformed Church, where she was a faithful member of the Church Prayer Group. Her gift to the world was being a prayer warrior. Her grandchildren often said she had a direct line to Heaven. She was a woman of faith, mentoring others in grace, mercy, and compassion. Her quick wit and joy for life were a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Rosemary and Alvin Wissink, of Waconia, Minnesota; Andrew “Bill” Van Pelt and Melinda Olson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Scott and Janet Van Pelt, of Windsor Heights; and Virginia and Gary Vaden, of Johnston; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Van Pelt, of Spencer; fourteen grandchildren, Shelly, and her husband, Mike Vonk; Kristi, and her husband, Tim Pies; Michael De Raad, and his wife, Shannon; Chris Van Pelt, and his wife, Snez; Audrey Van Pelt Kalsow; Victor Van Pelt; Amy, and her husband, Joel Swanson; Nathan Wissink, and his wife, Stephanie; Robin, and her husband, Ernest Parker; Heather, and her husband, Mike Moran; Josh Huffman, and his wife, Lindsay; Megan Huffman; Paige Vaden; and Ryan Vaden; nineteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
