Ms. Judith Wierda, age 73, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, January 3, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, at 3:00pm, at Prairie Ridge with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Judith LaVonne was born on September 23, 1949, in Orange City, the daughter of Thomas and Lucille (Kleinhesselink) Wierda. She was raised in Hawarden, where she attended the Hawarden Country School through the first grade, when her family moved to Orange City.

Following graduation from the Maurice-Orange City High School, she attended the Sioux Falls School of Practical Nursing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked for the Orange City Hospital for thirty years before retiring. In 2019, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Ms. Wierda was a member of the American Reformed Church. She enjoyed horses, doing word searches, reading, and listening to country western music.

Survivors include her brother and his wife, Jerry and Kathy Wierda, of Orange City; and a niece and her husband, Allyson and Greg Schlichte, of Bloomington, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful volunteers that drove Judy to and from dialysis. Your kindness was greatly appreciated.

Memorials will be given to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City.
