Mr. Donny Solsma, age 60, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Unity Point Health St. Luke’s in Sioux City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, November 29, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at the Living Water Community Church in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, at 2:00pm, at the church with the Rev. Garry Nyenhuis officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Donny Wayne was born on September 8, 1962, in Bellflower, California, the son of Richard Eugene and Gertrude Ann (Vander Meulen) Solsma. When he was young, his family moved to Hospers, where he attended the Floyd Valley Community School.

He enlisted in the United States Army, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for three years and earned his GED. Following his honorable discharge, he lived in Orange City for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he went to school for autobody and worked on the truck load out for the Land O’Lakes Milk plant. After a few years, he returned to Orange City and worked for Silent Drive until he was forced to retire due to the loss of his eyesight.

Mr. Solsma was a member of the Living Water Community Church in Orange City. He enjoyed tinkering with cars when he was able.

Survivors include his sister and her husband, Vicki and Mark Lyftogt, of Salinas, California; his brother and his wife, Gary and Theresa Solsma, of Orange City; five nieces and nephews, Melissa Lyftogt; Caleb Lyftogt, and his wife, Erin; Sarah, and her husband, Jordan Bentley; Lynnzie, and her husband, Justin Geary; and Cody Solsma, and his wife, Paige.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
