Mr. Loren Van Otterloo, age 51, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Sioux Center Health.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Sunday, November 27, from 2:30pm to 5:00pm, at the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull. A prayer service will take place on Monday, November 28 at 10:00am, at the church, followed by interment at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a memorial service on Monday, at 11:00am, at the church with Pastor Keith Hoekstra and the Rev. Bob Pollema officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Loren Dale Van Otterloo was born on November 14, 1971, in Sioux Center, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Kempema) Van Otterloo. He grew up in Hull where he attended the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School. After graduation, he went on to earn his degree in electrical Engineering from the Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon. He used those gifts and talents when he joined his dad and brothers at Art’s Electric in Hull, as a part-owner and Master Electrician.

On November 4, 1994, Loren married the love of his life, Michelle Lynn “Shelly” Krommendyk. Together they built their home in Hull and were blessed with three children, Lindsey in 2000, Allison in 2002, and Nathan in 2005. Loren enjoyed doing thoughtful and creative projects around their home, including remodeling the house, and bringing more character to their backyard. What mattered most to him, was being able to do those projects, and enjoy the end result, with his family. Family meant the world to Loren, and spending time with them was always his top priority. Watching his children develop and use their own gifts and talents brought him great joy.

Loren was diagnosed with cancer on October 14, 2021, and he fought his battle with our Lord Jesus by his side. He was a lifelong member of the Hope Christian Reformed Church, and having Jesus at the center of his life, and his family’s life, brought them strength for each day and hope for each tomorrow.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of more than 28 years, Shelly, of Hull; three children, Lindsey Van Otterloo; Allison Van Otterloo, and her fiancé, Trevin Hulstein; and Nathan Van Otterloo; all of Hull; his parents, Art and Margaret Van Otterloo, of Hull; three sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Kelly Colwell, of Spirit Lake; and Sandy and Martin Nielsen, and Jackie and Mike Covey, all of Hull; two brothers and their wives, Mike and Marideth Van Otterloo, and Dave and Lisa Van Otterloo, all of Hull; his wife’s parents, Don and Mary Krommendyk, of Hull; a brother-in-law and his wife, Brad and Deb Krommendyk, of Hull; 17 nieces and nephews, 15 great-nieces and great-nephews; and two more that are expected.

Memorials may be given to the Van Otterloo Family for future designation.
