Raymond Dale Peters died October 18, 2022, in Sioux Falls. Ray, the son of Carl and Sophia (Schneider) Peters, was born April 14, 1934 in Hawarden, Iowa. He married Patricia (Eidsness) Peters, the love of his life, on July 3, 1953.

After a stint in the Army, Ray worked for Northwestern Bell in locations throughout Iowa until his retirement in 1984. The primary focus of his life was always his family, including Pat and their four children, Gary (Jeannette), Brian (Jill Ansted), Ted, and Amy (Peter Sims); his grandchildren, Max, Charley, Nolan (Claire), Leo, Chet, and Ella; and many beloved dogs. He could and would do anything around the house — lay new roof shingles, install plumbing, rewire a room, tile a floor, paint a room with precision, or whip up a batch of spicy jambalaya. He had a green thumb and provided his family with abundant vegetable harvests for many summers.

Ray lived in the moment — before that phrase was even a thing. He truly absorbed and savored every little thing, inspiring others to do the same. He asked, instead of a remembrance ceremony, that you listen to Bing Crosby’s Back in Your Own Backyard. In it, Bing sings, “your happiness lies right under your eyes.” Ray believed this — home and family were the heart of it all.
