Mary Margaret Joanning, age 93 of Granville, IA passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 at her home near Granville, IA surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, there will be a parish rosary & vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church in Granville. Visitation will resume 1 hour before the funeral on Thursday at the church. The family requests that masks to be worn. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.

Mary was born on September 12, 1928 in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Stunebeck) Beckmann, Sr. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education at Remsen St. Mary’s School and graduated in 1946.

On September 26, 1949, Mary married Albert Joanning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple lived and worked on the family farm near Granville.

Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Guild. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. No one ever left Mary’s house hungry. She is best known for her chocolate chip cookies, embroidering dish towels, mowing, gardening, and doing jigsaw, crossword, and word search puzzles.

Survivors include: Two sons, Scott (Rose) Joanning of Alton and Todd (Diane) Joanning of Granville. Three adopted granddaughters: Sterling (Tyler) Meyer, LeMars, Paris Schnepf, Des Moines, and Krayton Schnepf, Iowa City. Three adopted great grandchildren: Miles, Graham, and Baby Meyer, many nieces and nephews, and her dedicated dog, Sophie.

Mary was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, Albert, two brothers: Frank (Verina) Beckmann and William (Marcy) Beckmann, Jr., and one sister, Susie Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers are Dick and Mike Schnepf, John and Andy Hansen, Dave Klein, Keith Kellen, Tom Haupert, and Dan Schroeder.
