HAWARDEN, IOWA – Sharon Van Noort, 78, of Hawarden, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.

Sharon Ann Van Noort was born August 23, 1943 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Bernice (Shriner) Hedden. She married Gerrit “Smokey” Van Noort, Jr. on September 1, 1960 at Hawarden. They farmed for 10 years between Fairview, South Dakota and Akron, Iowa. They made their home in Hawarden where Sharon worked and was a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and making quilts. Sharon was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden.

Smokey passed away on March 3, 2017. Sharon moved into Hillcrest Health Care Services in January of this year.

Sharon is survived by 6 children, Audree (Roger) Olson of Hawarden, Duane (Rebecca) Van Noort of Hudson, South Dakota, Jeffery (Michelle) Van Noort of Hawarden, Ann (Bill) Sieler of Rock Valley, Iowa, Brett (Denise) Van Noort of Akron, and Teri (Linda) Van Noort of Inwood, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Donna (Don) Hugh and Kim (Rick) Waterman; 3 brothers, Kirby (Florence) Hedden, Kerry (Trudy) Hedden, and Kody (Michelle) Hedden; and many nephews and nieces.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Bernice; husband, Gerrit; son, Mark Wayne Van Noort; brother, Joe Hedden; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Van Bochove.
