Rock Valley, IA: Wilma Burgers, 84, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Monday, February 21, 2022, at her home in Rock Valley under the care of her loving family. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 25, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley with Rev. Henry Lengkeek. The service will be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/accounts/17373723/trinitycrcservices Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Thursday, February 24, from 6:00-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Memorials may be given to Justice For All in Rock Valley.

Wilma Burgers was born on May 26, 1937, in Zeist, The Netherlands, the daughter of Joe and Wilma (De Ruiter) Van De Stroet. She was raised in The Netherlands until Wilma was 11. In 1948 she moved to the United States with her parents, brothers, and sisters. They settled at Fairview, South Dakota where she completed 8th grade at a country school.

On September 2, 1959, Wilma was united in marriage with Gilbert Burgers in Rock Valley, Iowa. Together the couple made their home in Rock Valley where they raised their four children; Derrel, Gloria, Glenda, and Leon. Wilma and Gilbert were charter members of Trinity Christian Reformed Church.

Wilma loved to work with her hands and always made work fun. Whether she was busy raising her children, volunteering at Justice For All, baking or making meals for others, or helping countless people with whatever they needed, this was her passion and mission. Wilma had a heart to serve others and always gave her best. She enjoyed riding bike, playing games, and visiting with friends.

Wilma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gilbert; three children, Gloria Burgers of Rock Valley, Glenda Jones of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Leon (Lora) Burgers of Alvord, Iowa; four grandchildren, Sara (Jason) Roskup, Mike Lottman, Tawny Jones, and Tara Jones; two great-grandchildren, Jada and Alyse Roskup; sister, Beverly Dykstra of Rock Valley; and sister-in-law, Josie Van De Stroet of Visalia, California.

Preceding Wilma in death were her parents, Joe and Wilma Van De Stroet; son, Derrel Burgers; and siblings, Harry Van De Stroet, Carol Getting, Alice Leusink, and Case Van De Stroet.
