Danny Rae Schmidt

Danny Rae Schmidt went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 2, 2022, after a long battle with dementia at age 74.

Danny was born in Le Mars, Iowa, on Sept. 11, 1947, to Wanda Day Schmidt and Marvin Jurgen Schmidt. He graduated from West Sioux High School and played on their winning football team. He won a football scholarship to South Dakota State but transferred to Iowa State his junior year. He graduated in 1969 and married Linda Carter on Aug. 23, 1969. Together they had two sons, David Phillip Schmidt and John Nicholas Schmidt.

Dan spent his entire career in the millwork business and was director of the NSDJA for two years. He retired in 2014 and moved to Tampa with his wife Linda. Don loved playing golf and played at the Old Courses in Scotland and played Augusta National. Yes, that Augusta National! Dan said he couldn't breathe when he stepped up to the first tee.

He is survived by his wife Linda; son John; mother Wanda; brothers Steve Schmidt (Pam), and Scott Schmidt (Maralee); and sister Julie Schneider (Shawn).

He was preceded in death by his son David; and father Marvin.

Dan was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He will be forever missed and loved until we are reunited in Heaven.
