Our condolences with the family of Jake Wielenga. A few days ago, the husband and father were transported to the hospital in Clarinda. On Monday, the news of his death came there. The dusty surplus arrived here yesterday and will come from the time of the C. G. Gem. under the direction of Rev Breen, Wielenga leaves his wife with 5 children. Verily, a tough history. Strength to cross be wished to the mourning.
The issue of the Alton Democrat of Nov 9th 1901 mentioned that Jake had tried to insanely take his own life or injure himself and was taken to the state hospital at Clarinda, very sad for his wife and children.

Jacob P. Wielenga born 18 Dec 1865 Friesland Neth. was the son of Petier Lieuwes Wielinga 1832-1920 and Systske Straatsma 1837-1904. He died 25 Nov 1901 at Clarinda, Iowa. His wife was Volkea Peer 1870-1961. They had five children from 1894-1900.
