The community was shocked when the news spread of the accidental death of Peter Nye (Ney) which occurred on his farm on the border of town. It seems that Mr. Nye was unhitching a team of horses when they started, and pulled the line which turned the horses toward him, knocking him down and the rear wheel passing over his chest causing instant death.

Peter Nye was 74 years of age and one of the pioneer settlers of Sioux County and leaves to mourn his loss two sons, John and Michel of this place.

Ney, Peter born 6 Oct 1841 died 28 Jul 1913 buried in St. Joseph’s cemetery Granville IA. He married Catherine Hilgert 1840-1894.
