Ms. Bonita “Bonnie” Roos, age 71, of North Liberty, formerly of Sioux Center, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at her home, after a brief illness

There will be a funeral service on Friday, May 27, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment will take place at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Bonita Rae was born on December 6, 1950, in Orange City, the second of four children born to Orville John and Arlene Yvonne (Wielenga) Oolman. She grew up on a farm west of Orange City, where she cared for a miniature pony and many other farm pets. She graduated from the Maurice-Orange City High School in 1969, before attending the University of Iowa, where she earned her bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine.

Bonnie made her home in Sioux Center, where she raised her five sons, until moving to North Liberty in 2001. Bonnie was an animal lover, having cared for more than a dozen dogs and cats through the years. She was also an attentive listener, generous gift giver, avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and committed Christian. She grew up in the First Reformed Church in Orange City and, as an adult, attended the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City and the Christ Community Church in Sioux Center. For more than thirty years, Bonnie worked as a nuclear medicine technician, first at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, and later at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was devoted to her patients and colleagues and retired reluctantly in 2021, due to health issues.

Bonnie is survived by five sons: Jake Roos, and his wife, Jamie O’Grady, of Norfolk, Virginia; Ben Roos, and his wife, Megan (Bomgaars), of Iowa City; Charlie Roos, and his wife, Cora (Blom), of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Tony Roos, of Arvada, Colorado; and Pete Roos, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Beckett, Olive, Mila, and Arie Roos; ten grand-pets; three siblings and their spouses, Larry and Glenda Oolman, of Hull; Pam and Ronald Smith, of Hudsonville, Michigan; and Randy and Brenda Oolman, of Orange City; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Roos; and a granddaughter, Lindsey Roos.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice in Cedar Rapids.
