Mrs. Muriel Brumels, age 93, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, June 10, at 9:30am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Dr. Brian Keepers officiating. Interment will take place at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Muriel Ruth was born on May 14, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Gerrit and Hattie (Hulsing) Spoelstra. She was raised in Grand Rapids, where she graduated from the Union High school.

On June 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gordon Keith Brumels in Grand Rapids. They made their home in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan, before moving to Orange City, where they were members of the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City.

Mrs. Brumels enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and beating her husband at cribbage. They also spent time together camping and fishing. On June 3, 2022, they celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Brumels, of Orange City; four children and their spouses, Garry and Jana Brumels, of Norwalk; Jana and Jim Muir, and Mark and Jane Brumels, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Michael Brumels and Michael Fry, of Flower Mound, Texas; 23 grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Straayer, of Grand Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Doris Brumels, of Holland, Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Spoelstra; three sisters and their husbands, Alice and Rod Bloom; Marge and Bud Huizen; and Marion and Bert Stolk; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Straayer and Bruce Brumels.
