Mr. Marvin Babcock, age 70, of Alton, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at his home.

An open house in celebration of Marv’s life will be held on Monday, June 20, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Marvin Dean was born on May 23, 1952, in Winnebago, Minnesota, the son of Robert and Helen (Fierke) Babcock. He was raised in Winnebago until his family moved to Rochester, Minnesota, in 1967. He attended the Mayo High School, the Rochester Junior College, and the University of Minnesota.

On July 28, 1973, he married Deborah Gerths at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. In 1975, Marv and Deb moved to Alton, where they raised their three children, and owned and operated Babcock Locker until 2017, when their son, Josh, took over. Marv enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing, trap shooting, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of more than 48 years, Deborah, of Alton; three children and their spouses, Andrea and Eric Wu, of Mission Hills, Kansas; Joshua and Kelli Babcock, of Alton; and Melannie and Travis Hofmeyer, of Ashton; five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Addison, and Bailey Babcock; and Burke and Wren Hofmeyer; five siblings and their spouses, Lewis and Barb Babcock, of Houston, Texas; Ed and Jan Babcock, of Lake City, South Dakota; Jack and Sue Babcock, of River Falls, Wisconsin; Mary and Mark Seaburg, of Moses Lake, Washington; and Kathy and Dave Zarling, of Rochester, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Cathy and Kevin Solem, of Cochrane, Wisconsin; and Laurie and Ric Marzolf, of New Hampton; a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Joan Gerths, of Chatfield, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Deborah’s parents, Richard and Norma Gerths.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family encourages memorials to be given to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
