Mr. Alvin Stuit, age 77, of Hospers, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at his residence.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Wednesday, April 6, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. A prayer service will take place on Thursday, at 10:00am, at the church. Interment will follow the prayer service at Hospers Cemetery. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Cory Van Sloten officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Sidney was born on November 19, 1944, in Orange City, the son of Ralph and Martha (Pott) Stuit. He was raised on the family farm near Hospers and attended the Hospers Christian School and Western Christian High School in Hull.

On June 9, 1965, he married Julie Ann Hofmeyer at the Hospers Presbyterian Church. They made their home on a farm near Hospers, where they raised their four children. In addition to being a farmer, he worked at Banner Beef, and the Farmers Cooperative in Sioux Center for 25 years.

Mr. Stuit was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers, where he was a deacon and youth group leader. He was also a township leader, enjoyed farm auctions and sales, helping Julie with freezing, canning, and gardening, preparing meats for family gatherings, and attending his grandchildren’s events.

Survivors include his wife of more than 56 years, Julie; his four children and their spouses, Jolynn and Scott Van De Berg; Arla and Cory Van Sloten; Brent and Barb Stuit; and Rachel and Matt Olson; fourteen grandchildren, Sarah, and her husband, Chris Van Beek; Audra, and her husband, Kevin Christian; Weston, and his wife, Kelsey Van De Berg; Tyson Van De Berg; Devin Van Sloten; Drew Van Sloten; Justine, and her husband, Klay Byker; Dryce Van Sloten; Anmarie Stuit; Brayden Stuit, and his fiancé, Alexis Haverhals; Laina Stuit; Sydney Olson; Maddie Olson; and Sawyer Olson; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Poppema and Sandi Stuit.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Junior Poppema; Julie’s parents, Wesley and Johanna Hofmeyer; and Julie’s siblings, Robert and Jolene Hofmeyer; Wallace (Dean) and Alma Hofmeyer; Arvin Hofmeyer; Jan Hofmeyer; and Joann Hofmeyer in infancy.

Memorials will be given to ATLAS of Orange City and Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
