Wayne Van Wyhe Sr., age 88 of Hills, Minnesota died Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 4th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 5th at the Hills United Reformed Church in Hills, MN. Burial will follow at the Hills Christian Reformed Cemetery.

Wayne Van Wyhe was born on July 7, 1933, to Lambert & Annie (Van Muyden) Van Wyhe, along with his twin brother Duane, near Ireton, IA. He grew up on the farm and attended country school through the 8th grade.

Wayne was united in marriage to Jennie DeRoon on February 19, 1954, in Rock Valley, IA. Wayne was drafted into the Army in 1955. He served 21 months alongside his twin, Duane. During Wayne’s time in the Army Jennie lived with her mom, during which time their son, Wayne Allen, was born. Wayne and Duane were deployed to Korea as processing clerks during peace time from October 1955 to February 1957.

When he returned, Wayne and Jennie began farming near Lebanon, IA. They were then blessed with seven more children. In December 1967, they moved to a farm near Hills, MN.

In 1992, they retired from farming and started Dutchland Frozen Foods with Pete & Susan. They moved to Lester, IA in 1994 and returned to Hills, MN in March of 2009.

On November 17, 2010, Jennie passed away after 56 years of marriage and Wayne continued to live at the Hills Tuff Village.

Wayne married Hendrene Veldkamp on January 26, 2013, in Hills, MN.

He moved to the Hills Tuff Home in January 2019, where he resided until his death on May 1, 2022, at the age of 88.

Wayne’s faith was very important to him and he conveyed that to each one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Hills United Reformed Church. He was actively involved in the church along with the Hills Christian School.

He loved farming and worked very hard to provide for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed watching his children play fast pitch softball. He also loved playing games, making Yum Yum popcorn, singing hymns, fishing, and going to his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Hendrene of Edgerton, MN; eight children, Wayne (Norma) Van Wyhe of Lester, IA, Pete (Susan) Van Wyhe of Lester, IA, Leroy (Shelley) Van Wyhe of Hills, MN, Shirley (Kevin) Wall of Parker, CO, Howard (Heidi) Van Wyhe of Hills, MN, Harlan (Christy) Van Wyhe of Prescott, AZ, Greg (Michelle) Van Wyhe of Rock Rapids, IA, and Linda (Dean) Meyer of Rock Rapids, IA; 28 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Kathy Van Wyhe, Helen Van Wyhe, and Darlene Van Wyhe; and Hendrene’s children and their families.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert & Annie Van Wyhe; wife, Jennie; brothers, Gordon, Duane, and Marlin; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret (Dick) Vande Griend, Gert (Ordean Webert) (Ray) Obermoller, Dorothy (Peter) Vande Griend, Alice (Bill) Moerman, and Esther (Dick) Vande Hoef; and Hendrene’s son, Rob Veldkamp.
