Carol Jo Fliear, the daughter of Harvey and Nellie (Van Dyke) DeBruin, was born July 8, 1950 in Orange City, Iowa. As a youth she grew-up in Hospers where she attended the Hospers Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, Carol went on to receive an accounting and bookkeeping degree from NCC in Sheldon, Iowa. Carol was on a blind date when she met her husband to be, Larry Ray Fliear. The two were united in marriage on July 10, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in California and she worked for General Electric. They moved back to Sheldon, Iowa. She worked for Van Wyk Trucking Ken Karr Ford Dealership, Mister K’s Foods in Sheldon and for the Green House in Boyden until her retirement. Larry and Carol moved to Matlock in 1992. Her husband Larry preceded her in death on October 15, 2011. Carol remained in her home until her passing at the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Thursday, May 12, 2022, reaching the age of 71 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed her time at Round Lake, MN, for the past 40 years; attending the Dirt Track Races with her sister and going to the Casino’s. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s events.
Carol leaves to cherish her memory her three children and spouses, Shanda and Steve Seybert of Mooresville, NC; Stephani Johnson and Cory Cleveland of Sioux City, Iowa and Darin and Nicole Fliear of Murrieta, CA; 11 grandchildren, Carlee and Kaylin Seybert; Jayda, Cade, Kiana and Tate Johnson, Kayleigh and Braden Cleveland; Kyli, Zachary and Derrick Fliear; 2 sisters, Darla (John) Vande Weerde of Alton, IA and Lonnie (Lyle) Gorter of Escondido, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Gwenda Stegemann and Sharon Fliear; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Larry.
