DEAN'S OBITUARY

Dean G. Ulmer, 71 was born in 1950 and went into eternity to his Lord Jesus Christ on August 7th, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Lincoln, NE following a 14 month battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

Dean was born in Grafton, NE on his parent’s farm. As a child, he attended the Lushton, NE one room schoolhouse and graduated from Sutton High School in 1968. He attended Dordt College and began working with Sioux Automation in Sioux Center, IA. On September 6th, 1975 he married Wanda Mol and 4 beautiful children were born to this union. He began his own roofing business and then worked for Sioux Center Public Schools as the transportation director. He returned to college and graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA in 1993, then attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Florida and received a Master of Divinity degree in 1996. Dean became an ordained pastor in the Reformed Church in America. Dean and Wanda were blessed to serve the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton, IA for 7 1/2 years and the First Reformed Church in Mitchell, SD for 13 years. Their supportive and loving ministries gave Wanda and Dean some of the best years of their life.

Dean taught us all how to have Faith and pursue the life that God desires for us. He moved his family across the country at the age of 43 to pursue a calling to ministry. He trusted that he and his family would be taken care of and be blessed with new friends and churches along the way. Dean loved counseling those in his congregations who needed encouragement. He loved praise and worship music and helping those around him worship our King in new ways. He encouraged support and participation in missions to progress God’s kingdom around the globe. He loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren so well. Quality time was spent holding their hands on walks, reading them books, listening to their stories, and pushing them on the swings. He enjoyed wood working, getting out his tool belt and helping his children with projects and serving with World Renew to help hurricane survivors repair their homes. He was always staying busy in retirement, journaling, reading, walking on the beach, riding on a bike trail with Wanda or grandchildren, or stopping to revel in God’s creation while traveling around the country in an RV.

Grateful for sharing his life are his loving wife of 45 years, Wanda, children Wendy (Derek) Meyer, Waukee, IA; Matt (Diane) Ulmer, Lincoln, NE; Amanda (Greg) Schoolland, Ripon, CA; Kevin (Kate) Ulmer, Bemidji, MN; grandchildren Nolan, Makenzie, Katelyn Meyer; Ava, Simon, Lucy Ulmer; Jack, Clara, Lydia, Mabel Schoolland; and Autumn, Hailey, Elliette Ulmer; brothers Laurence (Phyllis), Sutton, NE; LoRayne, Henderson, NE; Kenneth (Susan), St. Louis, MO.

He was preceded into eternity by his parents (Edmund / Christine) Wanda’s parents (Neal / Grace Mol), sister-in-law (Janice Ulmer) Wanda’s sister (Sharon Smits), many relatives, and friends whose funeral services he presided over in the past years. Visitation will be at Grace Chapel, 1345 S. 16th St, Lincoln, NE at 12-1:30pm Friday, August 13, 2021. Funeral will follow at 1:30pm. Burial will take place at 4:00pm at Yankee Hill Cemetery, S.W. 12th Street & West Pioneer Blvd., Lincoln.

Grace, Mercy and Peace to all who embrace and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior! For those seeking these three blessings, please join the family of God today!
