Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 80

Leo Christopher Fischer, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born September 27, 1941, near Hospers, Iowa, the son of Anton “Tony” and Catherine Friedrich Fischer.

Leo graduated from Hospers High School with the class of 1959. Following high school, he worked on the family farm.

Leo had five children: Karla, Margaret, Sarah, Andy, and Mark.

Leo’s first business from the farm was Fischer Oil Company in Hospers, Iowa. In 1967, the family moved to the Pella area where Leo took a sales position with Schiebout Tire Company in Pella, Iowa. He worked for Schiebout until his retirement in 1986. In retirement he kept himself busy working different part-time jobs and helping with the care of his mother as her health was failing.

Leo enjoyed watching NASCAR, Football and singing Johnny Cash. He always looked forward to family visits and delighted in spending time with his grandchildren. Leo was also always up for a trip to the casino.

His surviving family includes his five children and their spouses: Karla (& Gagan) Kamal of Iowa City, Margaret (& Greg) Dukeman of Huntsville, Alabama, Sarah (& Rod) McGlothlen of Oskaloosa, Andy (& Ellen) Fischer of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mark (& Angie) Fischer of Columbus, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren: April Ozinga, Roman Neuzil, Jonathan Neuzil, Anton Dukeman, Alexandra Dukeman, Jordan Brown, Shannon Johnson, Sam Johnson, Madison Brown, Carter Thomas, Stuart Fischer, Michael Fischer, Robert Fischer, and Nicholas Fischer; five great grandchildren: Dominic Neuzil, Brennan Ozinga, Emmett Ozinga, Ellie Brown and Amelia Brown; a brother, Don (& Ann) Fischer of Pella; a sister, Anna Mae Johnson of Charlotte, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Pat Fischer.

A Celebration of Life will be postponed at the this time at the Hospers Community Center, and will be rescheduled for a later date.
A private burial of the urn at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa will take place at a later date and time.
The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
