Former Pastor Peace Church Is Summoned
Rev. Dachsteiner Served Here 1922-27

Rev. Jacob Dachsteiner, beloved pastor of Peace Lutheran church for five years, passed away in the hospital at Madison, S.D., on March 19, 1941, at the age of 72 years.

The Rev. Dachsteiner came to Rock Valley to serve the Plato Township church in 1922 and left for Madison in the year 1927. He was a man of great knowledge and ability and by the force of his personality and great ability brought new life into the church here just as the present able pastor, the Rev. Hugo Beyer, has done. He leaves to mourn his widow and a daughter, Mary, who is still at home.

Lutheran Ex-Pastor’s Rites Set for Friday
Rev. Jacob Dachsteiner, Who Retired at Madison in 1936, Active 37 Years

Madison, S.D., March 20. – Death has claimed Rev. Jacob Dachsteiner, 72, whose retirement from the pulpit of St. John German Lutheran church in 1936 ended a 37-year career in the ministry. Forced to give up active work because of ill health, he never fully recovered, and a short time ago became critically sick.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock Friday afternoon at St. John church, with Rev. F. Kumpf, Humboldt, assisting the pastor, Rev. August Hintz, and colleagues from other churches in the territory serving as pallbearers. The body will then be sent to Watertown, Wis., for burial.

A native of Germany, Rev. Dachsteiner immigrated to the United States in 1890, locating first at Pittsburgh. He spent four years in Sunday school work before entering St. Paul Luther seminary to prepare for the pulpit. Completing his studies in 1899, he took a church at Stockton, Ill., and subsequently spent 15 years in Minnesota pastorates, six years as missionary at Shelby, Mont., and six years at Sioux Center, Ia., before coming to Madison in 1927.

Survivors are the widow; a daughter, Mary, at home; a brother; a sister; and a half-sister.
