Obit of Mrs. D. J. Jennie Vander Schaaf, formerly, Mrs. Henry Vant Hof, nee Van Zyl.

The Sioux County Index of Mar 26, 1926

On Wednesday afternoon, March 17, it behooved the Lord to take unto himself, Mrs. D. J. Vander Schaaf who succumbed quietly after an illness of four weeks, following an operation.

The deceased was born September 1, 1864 in Pella, Iowa, where she lived until 1870 when she migrated with her parents and the band of pioneers who first took up homesteads in Sioux County.

In her youth she graduated with the second class from the Northwestern Academy at Orange City, and then attended school in Poughkeepsie, N. Y. to further prepare for the Mission field, but was hindered from completing her work because of eye trouble.

In 1894 she married to Henry Van’t Hof, who died in 1906, Since 1913 when she was united in marriage with D. J. Vander Schaaf, she has lived in Hull IA.

During the War she displayed true loyalty while serving as Vice president of the local Red Cross chapter. All her life Mrs. Vander Schaaf has been a devoted Christian Worker in her home and the Church. She was ready at all times to render aid wherever she could.

She leaves besides her husband, to mourn her loss, three daughters: Arta Vant Hof at home; Katie of Ireton, and Alice of Buckeye IA, one son Bert of Hope College; and five step sons and three step daughters.

The funeral was Saturday afternoon, March 10th form the home and the First Reformed church. Rev. Stoppels officiating, assisted by Rev. Lumkes of Boyden. The remains were laid to rest in Hope Cemetery Hull IA .
