Catharine “Katie” Miller was born on May 25, 1929 to Edwin and Emma (Tank) Miller in rural Rock Valley, Iowa. She attended school in Plato Township and graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1946. She then attended Wartburg College from 1946 to 1948 graduating with a two-year teacher’s degree and taught school at Rock Rapids, Stuart and Hawarden all in Iowa. Katie was very determined to finish her bachelor’s degree and successfully graduated in 1971 from Northwestern College.

On June 19, 1955 Katie was united in marriage with Jim Munday at Peace Lutheran Church. This was a marriage made in heaven since they were both very big Dodger fans even though they were from Iowa. They even honeymooned in Chicago during the Cubs/Dodgers weekend series. After their marriage Katie taught one year at the George Public School District. She stayed home when she had her children but eventually returned to Boyden-Hull Elementary School as a teacher’s aide.

Katie, along with the other family members enjoyed many trips every summer to various Major League Baseball Parks watching the Dodgers and one of Jim’s students who was a pitcher in the Major Leagues. Katie was a very avid sports fan of the Dodgers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed watching her teams and always would get a friendly reminder from one of her children when her teams were going to be on TV. She loved playing bridge, both as a couple when Jim was alive and after he passed, she would play at least three times a week.

When Jim and Katie moved to Le Mars, Iowa in 1977, she was employed at Clark School one year as the library/media aide, and from 1978 to 1984 she was employed as an Administrative Secretary to the Dean of Students at Westmar College. In January 1985 she began working at St. John’s Lutheran Church as their Administrative Secretary and worked there until she retired in May of 1995.

Katie was a member of the St. John’s Women of the ELCA, a circle member and a member of the Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary where she did volunteer work. She was in various Bridge clubs in Le Mars.

Katie is survived by her daughter, Ruth Munday of Huntington Beach, CA; a sister, Neva (Miller) Johnson of Algona, IA; a brother, John Miller of Rock Valley, IA; four grandchildren, Mikaela Munday, Taylor Munday, and Tanner Munday all of Louisville, KY, and Gage Munday of Florida. two great-grandchildren, Maleena Munday and Brynlee Gubert of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Munday, and her son, Mark Munday.
