De Vos, Elizabeth Lenore (Mrs. Cornie W.) 1928-2021

Mrs. Elizabeth De Vos, age 93, of Hull, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the Crown Pointe Estates Care Center in Sioux Center.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, December 1, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Adam Van Der Stoep will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Elizabeth Lenore was born on February 3, 1928, in Hull, the daughter of Jurrien J. “Jerry” and Cynthia (Meerdink) Dykstra. She was raised on a farm north of Hull and attended the Lincoln Township School #1 through the eighth grade.

On January 23, 1951, she married Cornie W. De Vos at the First Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home on a farm west of Sioux Center for a few years before moving to a farm north of Hull, where they raised their family. In 1995, they moved to a home in Hull. Cornie passed away on September 21, 2016, in Sioux Center, after more than 65 years of marriage. In 2018, Elizabeth became a resident of Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull, and earlier this year she moved to Crown Pointe Estates Care Center.

Mrs. De Vos was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Hull. She participated in the community Coffee Break Bible Study, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed bowling when she was younger.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Dennis Jay De Vos and Katherine Van Houten, of San Francisco, California; Glenda Kay and David Skallerud, of Iowa City; Leanne Beth De Vos and Rev. Mark Tidd, of Denver, Colorado; Lyle Evan and Ronna De Vos, of Hull; and Daryl Lee and Julie De Vos, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren, Brett (Beth) De Vos; Matthew, Kelly, and Michael Skallerud; Emma De Vos Tidd (Blake Irwin); Jeramy, Colin, and Parker De Vos; and Megan (Michael) Grajczyk, Brooke (Dawson) Hoven, and Morgan De Vos; four great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Marlene and Clarence Van’t Hul, of Canton, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Wilma Kuiken; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Harold and Sharon De Vos.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Peggy De Vos; three brothers and their wives, Joel and Tracy Dykstra; Donald and Anna Mae Dykstra; and Leroy and Henrietta “Henny” Dykstra; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Dorothy and Sam Klein and Nellie and Hilbert De Weerd; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence (June) De Vos and Harold Kuiken.

Memorials may be directed to First Reformed Church.
