Scholten, Anna G. (Mrs. Bernard) 1926-2021

Anna G. Scholten, age 94, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 24, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; son-in-law, Ron Vriesenga; and four brothers and three sisters. Anna was the 8th child born to Garret and Annie Vink on September 24, 1926, in Georgeville, Minnesota. She was nine months old when she moved to a farm in Iowa. Her eight years of education were in a two room school house. She walked a half mile to school every day. She attended high school at Hull Public school. After graduation, Anna worked in a grocery and dry goods store. She met the love of her life, Bernard L. Scholten, and she later left for California to reunite with Bernard. They were married on July 2, 1947 in Glendale, California shortly after Anna arrived. They returned back to Hull, Iowa in the fall and their two sons were born there. After five years, they moved to Cutlerville, Michigan where their two daughters were born. Anna was a homemaker until her youngest child started school. Then she worked at the Pine Rest Hospital Credit Union. Anna was a charter member of the Cutlerville East Christian Reformed Church. She loved music and sang in the church choir for over 40 years. Happy times were spent with her children and their spouses: Jerry & Marcia Scholten, Wes & Deb Scholten, Edna & Ron Vriesenga, and Rachel & Dan Morren. Her adored grandchildren are: Allison & John "John boy" Selter, Melissa & Chad Christensen, Marc & Tiffany Scholten, Eric & Shelly Scholten, Sheri & Will Lowery, Derek & Merissa Sizemore, Paul & Barbra Morren, and Sarah & Tae Hyung Kim. She called her great grandchildren her precious jewels: Abbie, Katelynn, Lindsey, Connor, Brooke, Charlotte, Parker, Mya, Lexi, Caden, Alexandria, Kaleb, Lilian, Eleanor, Paul Jr. and Emily. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, June 27, from 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, June 28, at Cutlerville East CRC, 501 68th St. SE, with Rev. Irwin Van Leeuwen and Rev. Ed Visser officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cutlerville East CRC Christian Education Fund.
