Jane Russell Ellis, age 66, of Alton passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.

A celebration of her life service will be held Monday, July 26, at 2:00 pm, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George with the Rev. Bryan Anderson officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Monday at the church from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Jane Russell was born to Harvey and Betty (Beck) Wild on March 2, 1955, in Denver. Her education was in Aurora, Colorado.

On May 24, 1974, she married Dennis Lee Ellis in Denver, after which the couple took up residence in Sioux County, living the last thirty years in Alton. In addition to being the mother of four sons and full-time homemaker, Jane worked in the MOC – Floyd Valley school lunch program and at Landsmeer Retirement Home.

Jane had a great affection for animals; never was her home without a dog or pet of some kind. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle, and swimming daily with friends. She loved listening to music, reading, and Bible study. Jane served on several committees as a member of Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City and sang in the choir. More recently, she attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in George.

Jane’s primary motivation in life stemmed from a relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. In conversation, she always made sure to ask family and friends how their own walk with Jesus was progressing. She was a godly woman, known among all for her depth of unconditional love, constant encouragement, and wise counsel. Summing up Jane’s life and legacy, she was a beautiful, funny, prayerful, flamboyant, faithful woman.

Jane was so thoroughly wrapped in Jesus that people had to go through Him to get to her. Her heart’s desire was to meet Him face-to-face; thus, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now safe with Him. Her family echoes several Bible passages regarding Jane and her passing: “Celebrate on that day! Jump for joy! Don’t you see: in heaven there is a great reward for you!” (Luke 6:23 NTE). “And this is the truth: God has given us the gift of eternal life, and this life is in His Son. If you have the Son, you have eternal life. If you do not have the Son of God, you are not acquainted with true life” (1 John 5:11-12 VOICE). “God lives in those who declare that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God” (1 John 4:15 GW). Jane’s passion for sharing Christ is exemplified by Acts 4: 12 & 20: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved . . . cannot help speaking about what have seen and heard” (NIV).

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Alton; their four sons: James, and his wife Ruth Ann of Rock Valley; Shane, and his wife Ashley of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Russell, and his wife Nichole of Wassaic, New York; Luke, and his wife Dádia of Waianae, Hawaii; thirteen grandchildren: Summer, Aidan, Andres, Soledad, Nikola, Kyle, Adrian, Lydia, Paisley, Oakley, Johnny Jett, Crew, and Journey; her sisters, Rebecca Robbins (Steve) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Linda Wild-Fowler (Steve) of Aurora, Colorado; her brother, Hardy Wild (Peggy), also of Aurora; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
