From the Rock Valley Bee, September 15, 1939:

Bobby Steinburg, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steinburg, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Rock Valley, died as a result of an operation for appendicitis, Sunday. Funeral services were held in the Congregational church in Rock Rapids Tuesday.

RESEARCH NOTES

His death certificate has Robert Harold Steinberg, usual residence Steen, Minnesota; resident of Rock Rapids 18 months; born Dec. 17 1922 in Ramona, South Dakota; parents Frank Steinberg and Jennie Groen, both born in Holland; died in the VanderWilt Hospital, Rock Rapids, at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 9, 1939; cause, pulmonary embolism; an appendectomy had been performed on Aug. 31, 1939; buried in Rock Rapids.

His FindaGrave.com page has him as Robert Steinberg, 1922-1939, buried in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids; parents Fokko Steinberg (1879-1947) and Janna Groen Steinberg (1881-1972); four siblings listed. There is a photo of his headstone, with his name as “Robert H. son of F. & J. Steinberg.”

The 1930 U.S. census and the 1925 and 1935 South Dakota state censuses all show the family living in South Dakota; in 1930 and 1935 they lived in Nunda, Lake County, SD. Earlier census records do not indicate when the family lived in Rock Valley, although Frank and Jenny were both residents of Rock Valley when they married in 1903.
